With the cost of a college education increasing every year, more and more students are being diligent in pursuing their undergraduate degrees. They have realized the benefits of taking the vast majority of their first two years of courses at Junior or community colleges that are generally a lot less expensive than larger four-year colleges and universities.

These students are considered transfer students and scholarships are available for many of these men and women who are transferring from a different college. Every single college in the United States has certain scholarships they offer through various departments. Some of the biggest private and public school systems provide scholarships specifically for transfer students.transfer
For general scholarships for transfer students, here are a number of opportunities any transfer student might want to consider if they require some type of financial assistance to complete their education. Some of the scholarships are certainly going to be based on need, but most scholarships have a tendency to focus on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and more in determining who receives the specific award.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

This particular scholarship can offer up to $30,000 a year to up to 60 students who are transferring from a community college to a top-tier four-year university.

The big stipulation with this particular scholarship is that students cannot directly apply for them themselves. They need to be nominated for the scholarship. What constitutes a top-tier university? That would be any major accredited university that is considered in the upper echelon of the academic world in the United States. Harvard, Yale, the University of Michigan, and more may all qualify as a top level four-year university.

In order for students who may be interested in learning more about this particular scholarship, they should contact a representative from this Foundation and learn more about it. Since students can’t directly apply for it, it’s essential that any student interested in this particular scholarship find out exactly what needs to be done for them to be recommended or nominated for this scholarship. Once they understand those things, they may be able to talk to the head of the department at the community college or junior college to find out if they might qualify.

Transfer Times

This is a bi-annual magazine that is focused on discussing topics that are important to transfer students. In Addition

While there are numerous other opportunities that are generally provided by independent or individual colleges and universities that can entice students from other schools to attend their programs, there are also plenty of opportunities when you begin looking at other organizations.

For example, sororities and fraternities often provide their own scholarship opportunities to their members. Some of these scholarships can help students transfer from one college or university to another. For example, the Tau Sigma National Honor Society awarded 34 scholarships this past year, all totaling $36,500. They did this through 105 chapters nationwide.

Any students who are interested in transferring from their current college or university, junior-college, or community college should sit down and speak to a counselor about the opportunities that exist for scholarships to their intended university. If there is limited information available, they should contact the accredited four-year college or university they will be attending in the near future and determine what opportunities exist for some financial support and assistance.

Students who were taking courses at a junior college or community college to save money need to understand their credit grades will not transfer in, even though the credits themselves will. These individuals may also have limited financial resources and therefore could apply for Federal Pell grants and other financial assistance. In order to do this, they need to fill out a FAFSA form.

This is a free-form made available through the United States government.
